Grade 8's that are not attending MOSS: SOCIALS ASSIGNMENT Part. III

INSTRUCTIONS

#1) If you are not attending MOSS, you will still need to complete all of the assignments that the kids will be doing in the MOSS booklet. Your MOSS booklets will be waiting for you at the front desk of the school office. You need to ensure that these assignments are completed by next week.

#2) For the Social Studies assignment, you will need to be at WRCA to work on the assignment. The criteria is exactly the same, except that you will be doing your mapping in a different area (the middle school area where Mrs.T's portable is located.

#3) When you get to the WRCA middle school area, look for 4 BRIGHT PINK paper markers, labeled #1, #2, #3, and #4 - they will be attached to the four corners of the perimeter (outside border). Be sure that you measure this first, just like we did in class. From there, measure, label and record everything else that is located within the perimeter.

#4) You will need to bring a tape measurer to complete this assignment. The rope system that I showed you will not work with one person doing the measuring. Lay the tape measurer on the ground as you complete your measurements and you should be fine doing things by yourself. Remember that you will have to convert feet into meters (i.e. 3.28 feet in a meter). Or, if you think it would be easier, make your own measuring tape. Get a rope or string that is 10 meters long and place a marker every meter on the rope.

#5) Remember that each square on your graph paper represents 1 meter x 1 meter

#6) You only have to have the rough copy completed for next week. You will be given time in class to work on the good copy

As there were "no questions" during the class that we went over this, I do expect this to be complete for next week- no excuses, please. Be sure to be careful with your measurements- you'll do just fine :) Good luck!

If I Were In Charge of the World

Judith Viorst

If I were in charge of the world
I'd cancel oatmeal,
Monday mornings,
Allergy shots, and also Sara Steinberg.

If I were in charge of the world
There'd be brighter nights lights,
Healthier hamsters, and
Basketball baskets forty-eight inches lower.

If I were in charge of the world
You wouldn't have lonely.
You wouldn't have clean.
You wouldn't have bedtimes.
Or "Don't punch your sister."
You wouldn't even have sisters.

If I were in charge of the world
A chocolate sundae with whipped cream and nuts would be a vegetable
All 007 movies would be G,
And a person who sometimes forgot to brush,
And sometimes forgot to flush,
Would still be allowed to be
In charge of the world.
